Dinotopia (2002) Review

This review was kind of like a test in a way, just so I could get a feel for how reviews are made. So next month, I'll be redoing this review, going more in depth, stating whats good and bad, talk more about the characters, all that good stuff! So watch out for the REAL Dinotopia review, coming in late March! *I DO NOT OWN DINOTOPIA. IT IS A TRADEMARK OF HALMARK ENTERTAINMENT AND JAMES GURNEY. ...

That movie sounds like a dud. I'm going to see Porky's revenge.
Scarface - say allo to my big teeth.
And of course the car breaks down.
This is the worst tv dimension show lve ever seen.
With that little actress dead and some of the cast members dead too it makes it even more scarier to watch today.
Believe it or not, I was able to catch a special showing of "Back to The Future", in Orlando, Fla., at the old Rocking Chair Movie Theater in Dec. of 1984, just before I left for W. Germany on Dec. 7th.1984. Why they released it early, or for how long, I have no idea. After I got to my duty station, I was asked about all of the new movies and TV shows state side, and I was talking up "Back to The Future"(It hadn't made it to European theaters yet). I even asked my parents to buy the VHS copy of the movie when it came out and ship it to me (It cost me $75.00). I was the only person on the base who had it! Once word got out, (my supervisor shot his mouth off) it was crazy! Everybody wanted to borrow it, from the base commander on down! I had Bird Col.'s ASKING to borrow a movie from an E-2! They didn't try using their rank or statis and was very grateful when I let them borrow it and remembered it every time that I bumped into them!😁
idk, something about them being in a raft was way cooler. idk how to explain it, it just was.
Best picture, period
Those two were really splitting hairs here. Both don't like the movie, but Ebert tries to give it props for its intended audience, while Siskel doesn't.
Titanic was the best movie of 1997 even though Ebert rated it number 9 on his best of the year list and it didn’t make Siskel’s top 10. Siskel and Ebert were a lot of fun to watch discuss and often argue over the then new released films but it’s fairly obvious from the above stated fact that they were both a bit wonky when it came to film reviews. How could a film critic possibly watch Titanic and then be like, “ah, it’s okay. I’d say…uhm…probably like number 9 on my list so far this year”? A better critical assessment would place the film in the top three films of the entire decade.
It's 2024 😅... I was feeling nostalgic.. and searched land of the lost 😂.... #Memories
I've seen higher resolution in 3000 BC Mesopotamian mosaics
I respect what Gene Siskel had to say about “Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer”, but it’s unfair to compare it with “The Silence of the Lambs.” They’re two very different films in spite of the similar subject matter.
This and the sitcom Dinosaurs was proof that the 90’s hit dino-fever long before Jurassic Park.
JPIII is way better than Dominion
"if you want a job done right, you gotta do it yourself" great game, great trailer
They had less kind things to say about "Saving Ryan's Privates".
Leslye Headland absolutely *CANNOT EVER* be given the nod to do a "modern" remake of this movie.
"Mary Sue McFly?" "Make her lame and gay!" "And when she goes back in time, BOTH her future moms will come on to her!"
"Back to the Future" has been called by several esteemed critics (please don't ask me to cite names) to be the closest thing to a perfect movie ever made.
When they get it right, they get it *absolutely* right.
Mr Siskel, Mr Ebert, i respectfully disagree. R.I.P

Shows how much critics know; ultimately in the end they are not objective even if they say they are; they just give you their subjective opinions and I believe everyone should form their own.
I love how they tried to get Tom Hanks to teach the child actor playing young Forrest how to talk like him and Hanks was like, it’ll be easier for me to talk with the kid’s voice.
Saw this again last week, so good on the big screen.
Yeah, it's great--until it all falls apart at the end out on the boat.
They didnt talk in this scene?
Elbert is right, Siskel is comparing movies.
I saw this movie when it premiered in theaters in 1993 at 9 years old. I saw it 13 times in a row for 13 days after my first viewing and couldn't get enough of it. I love Roger Ebert and think he's one of the best reviewers of all time, but this take is HORRIBLE. No sense of awe? Seriously? Thats crazy. This movie to this day has me in awe so many times. The dinosaurs are still the best looking ones ever made. Its just perfect. Alan Grant is my childhood hero and I wont stand for someone saying hes a blandly portrayed. Sam Neill knocked it out of the park! (Pun intended)
I usually agree with Siskel but he’s got his head up his ass on this one!
You can tell how pissed Gene is that he had to watch this movie.
“Sometimes there just aren’t enough rocks.” The line that seems to fly over a lot of people’s heads, especially people who want to bash Jenny. Forrest Gump understood something about her that many viewers didn’t. They both had to go on their own journey, some of it apart. It wasn’t about Jenny hurting Forrest. She had things she had to deal with to be with him.

Could you possibly be more wrong about a motion picture? I hope that his negative review caused a massive surge of movie fans to watch the film and object to his stark opinions... It's like he expects every movie to be released to be exactly like The Godfather or something of that level of film. Maybe he should just judge his favorite genres and not every movie ever. How can one critic be so wrong in the majority of his career? How did this man ever become a professional? They say those that can't "Teach", but I think he just likes to hear himself preach. He was even arguing with ebert, interrupting his opinion and viewpoints, even though ebert was patient and listened to his. Rude and opinionated.
Jurassic Park is the best movie Spielberg has ever made. Is insane pacing - not a moment to even catch your breath - and the engaging story keeps you on the edge of your seat from the opening to the ending credits
Gremlins is 40 years old! Made $148 million domestically and $212.9 million worldwide A true classic even though it's a Christmas movie that was inexplicably released in June The film is still a bonfide classic for sure by Steven Speilberg with puppeteer effects that still hold up despite them breaking down constantly during production and a catchy score by Jerry Goldsmith Phoebe Cates is actually the most fascinating character more than Galligan since she has such a harsh outlook on the holiday It's a combination of childhood quality, creature feature, holiday charm, satire, sci-fi, and a touch of horror Both kids and adults will adore it since the Gremlins themselves act as their own anarchists It's strange too cause even with all the fun the movie has there's that infamous scene in the middle where Kate opens up about her father dying on Christmas, it practically comes out of nowhere making you feel so heavy during this cheerful time of year And some of the scenes come off as disjointed or imbalanced given all the gags thrown at the viewer left and right Yet the movie is still appreciated being a love letter to chaos thanks to Dante's direction and early screenwriter Chris Columbus with a theme of entropy throughout This even cracked open a conversation about violence in family pictures much like Temple of Doom did so you can tell the filmmakers did their job scaring kids at a certain level while it being hilarious creating the PG-13 rating A sequel and even an animated tv series followed next to comics, video games but this first installment still retains its beloved cult status An overlying message is the follies of man with our lives being upended as we try to enrich them shaking up the established order ‘Gremlins’ is a very good Christmas movie/summer flick acting as a classic satire of monster movies
I Thought This Was Going To Take Place Back On Nublar I Was Thinking About For A Few Seconds Ago
Canceled sequel A sequel went into development after the first game proved a critical and commercial success, but it was canceled when Computer Artworks went into receivership in October 2003. According to Diarmid Campbell, "We had the contract in place to make the sequel and were pretty excited about it. We had a very cool prototype of 'dynamic infection' and some really imaginative thing 'burst-outs'. I particularly liked the one where the person would split in half and their top half would jump to the ceiling and start swinging around like an orangutan with his intestines turned into tentacles." However, the project never developed beyond the proof of concept stage, with Computer Artworks producing some concept art, showing locations and enemies, and two short demo videos, but nothing else.

Siskel dislikes.. wins oscars for best film, best director, best screenplay, best actor, best actress. Sounds about right.
I saw this in theaters at the age of six along with a few of my friends that summer. I had a aunt who said it was "too bloody and gory for kids" but my parents took me anyway. None of us thought it was too intense or scary. I mean it had its moments like when Ellie has to turn the power on. But nearly all the kills on screen where almost for laughs. The lawyer gets killed on the toilet, Dennis calls a dinosaur stupid and gets outsmarted, and Robert Muldoon gets tricked. None of us had any fear of getting attacked by a dinosaur, unlike Jaws which there is the possibility of getting attacked by a shark in the open ocean.
RIP Judith Barsi.

“You’re gonna need”… Not we.. I’m getting off the boat when you get a bigger boat..
I saw Godzilla on TV when I was 7. No problem. Saw the exorcist when I was 13 at the theatre. That statue ends up appearing in my bedroom that night.
Amazing film. So glad I saw it on the big screen in 1997.
I saw Forrest Gump a week before it officially came out in Melbourne Australia in a preview screening with a full audience. At the end the entire cinema applauded. I've never ever seen that happen before or since.
Completely lacking in redemptive quality? What the Christ is that review? This film is legendary and you're a dead, white man. Next!
